THE DALHOUSIE SCHOOL
Dalhousie which is situated on the outer edge of the Shiwaliks range, was the second school to be established in Himachal Pradesh and is the fourth residential school for Tibetan children in India. Initially in 1962, the school was spread out over several rented buildings. Over the years, however, the school has developed into compact complex with 26 classrooms, 6 dormitories, 4for boys and 2 for girls, 5 staff quarters and 16 single rooms for accommodating teaching and non teaching staff.
The first principal was Mr. Ngawang Gyaltsen who laid a firm foundation for the school's growth. The school which began with 250 children and grown to 620 students by end of 1984. Like the other residential schools run by the Central Tibetan Schools Administration, the Dalhousie school prepares students for the tenth and twelfth class examinations. From 15 teaching staff it had grown to 28 by end of 1984.
