Central School for Tibetans, Paonta Sahib was established
on June 1, 1968 with the help of Dr. Weidikar (Swiss Aid to
Tibetans). The school was started with only 50 local Tibetan
children.
In 1970, T.I.R.S. Aid organization has extended its help
to build three classrooms, one office room, one store, toilets
and five staff quarters and salary for school staff are drown
through the said organization.
Mr. Lhagnink Repgyal was the first school Teacher Incharge.
The present old hostel was built with financial help of Mrs.
Christa Kraft of Germany and in 1971, it was taken under Department
of Education(DoE) and renovated the hostel to give a permanent
look.
In 1973, this school was accepted by Central Tibetan School
Administration(CTSA) as a Grant in Aid school. Mr. Darshan
Shah Singh was appointed as the First CTSA Headmaster of the
school.
In 1977, this was named as CST in place of CHO-SUM school.
It was in february 1978 with the visit of A.N. Dhawan, Secretary,
CTSA, this school was upgraded to middle school. And then
in 1982, this school was fully taken by DoE.
In 1984, the first DoE Administrator, Mr. Pema Tsering was
appointed. In 1992 the school was upgraded to Secondary school
and got it's affiliation from Central Board of Secondary Education(CBSE).
Mr. Tsering Phuntsok was appointed as the first Principal
of the school and the school was upgraded to plus two level,
got it's affiliation from CBSE on April 1, 1997.
At present it has a strength of 489 students, ranging from
class I to XII. It got a new office block, new classrooms
and new hostels to claim as a model school of DoE.
